Smoking is one of the major causes of bad breath, gum disease, and heart disease. When you smoke, you are effectively starving the mouth of oxygen, thus promoting the overgrowth of anaerobic bacteria that create the smelly sulphur products. Unfortunately smoking is addictive and therefore not easy to cut down or quit. Interestingly, for over a hundred years, people have smoked cigarettes in order to mask their bad breath, the net result being a different unattractive odor. Cigarette odor can linger for over a day following the stopping of smoking.
